Powerful, flexible online surveys

Previewing, printing and saving your survey as a PDF

There is a known issue with the Preview function. Visit our Known Issues page for more information.

The survey preview allows you to see what your survey will look like, navigate through the survey like a respondent and answer questions without any data being saved. The survey preview also offers the option to print your survey or to save it as a PDF. You can access the survey preview at any point while creating or running your survey.

Note:  Response information entered into a survey preview is not recorded anywhere in online surveys.

You can use the survey preview to:

  • Proofread your survey for errors.
  • Test the settings and validation for each question.
  • Check your page and question order, and the different routes through your survey, if applicable.
  • Test survey access control credentials, if applicable.

Note: While the survey preview is a quick way to check your survey, we strongly recommend doing a full test run of your survey before launching it, by following our tutorial on Piloting a survey.

To preview your survey:

  1. Access the Preview mode as follows:
    • To preview your entire survey from the beginning:
      • In the Design or Distribute tab, click preview survey icon Preview Survey in the left-hand menu.
        Or:
      • Locate your survey in your Dashboard dashboard-icon and click the preview Preview survey icon alongside your survey.
    • To preview a particular page of your survey:
      • In the survey builder icon Survey builder, find the page in your survey that you wish to preview and click the preview page-smaller Preview icon at the top right of the page.
  2. To go through your survey as if you were a respondent, use the Submit and ContinuePrevious and Next (or Finish) buttons at the bottom of each page. This allows you to test the survey from a respondent’s point of view.
  3. To skip through your survey pages without testing question validation, routing, etc., use the Previous and Next (or Finish) buttons at the top right corner of your screen (in the black PREVIEW bar).
  4. To exit the preview mode, click < Return in the top left corner.

Note:  If you are asked to enter a username and password in the survey preview, you must enter a username and password from your respondent list, not your online surveys username and password.

To print your survey:

  1. Access the preview mode as described above.
  2. In the top right corner, click the preview actions icon Actions icon and select Print survey from the drop-down menu. Your survey will now be displayed in a print-ready format.
  3. Use your browser menu to print the survey

To save your survey as a PDF:

  1. Access the preview mode as described above.
  2. In the top right corner, click the preview actions icon Actions icon and select Export survey as PDF from the drop-down menu.
  3. Your survey will now be displayed as a PDF which you can save, print or attach to an email.

You can also save your survey as a PDF by choosing the Print option from the menu, and – if using a browser with this functionality – print to save as PDF (CTRL+P). Depending on the layout of your survey, this might present your survey more neatly.
